Woodward regulator replacement

Replacement of a Woodward PGA-EG58 controller having reached its critical operating hours

At Normandy Control Group, we recently carried out a key intervention for one of our customers: the replacement of a Woodward PGA-EG58 controller, which had reached the end of its service life.

Essential intervention to avoid risks

The regulator in question was fitted to a turbo-generator installed on a ship, and its condition required particular attention. When a governor’s cycles approach their limit, signs of fatigue appear, increasing the risk of :

  • Malfunctions leading to loss of efficiency
  • Unplanned shutdowns,
  • Increased operating costs due to emergency repairs.

By scrupulously following the Woodward manufacturer’s recommendations, our customer has chosen to call on our expertise in order to guarantee a preventive intervention carried out under the best possible conditions, with a constant concern for quality and meeting deadlines.

Procedure

  1. Complete diagnosis before dismantling: Our technicians carried out a thorough analysis of the equipment to confirm the wear of the regulator and validate the need for replacement.
  2. Dismantling and replacement: Once the equipment had been prepared, the worn regulator was carefully removed. The new Woodward PGA-EG58, supplied and calibrated by us, was then installed according to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  3. Calibration and validation tests: After installation, we carried out a series of dynamic tests to ensure that the new controller was working perfectly and that the system was operational again.
