Nuclear Power Sector: a safety protocol to assist our customers

Did you know? Since 2015, Normandy Control Group has been UTO qualified in CAS1 to intervene on all nuclear power plants in France. Since last July, our qualification has been renewed, with the compliments of EDF, for the next 5 years.

“Unsurprisingly, your qualifications is renewed for a period of 5 years.” Supplier Performance Department, EDF

What is CAS1 Qualification?

CAS1 Qualification means that our customer EDF approves our quality organization according to the NT 85-114 index 17 standard, which aims to control maintenance activities to guarantee the protection of nuclear power plants’ interests. This framework is itself supported by the BNI decree of February 7, 2021.

In other words, this means that by being CAS1 qualified, we ensure the control of the entire intervention; from preparation to implementation and we are autonomous in our intervention files and our procedures. Intervening on nuclear installations requires following a very strict protocol, in compliance with PFI – Practices for Reliability of Stakeholders (pre-job briefing, downtime, secure communication, self-checking, cross-checking, and debriefing).

Therefore, throughout our interventions, it is essential to take advantage of the rigor and quality of our services and procedures.

Our nuclear interventions

To guarantee the quality and safety of our operations, our technical team trained in nuclear safety procedures. This training allows us to have a good knowledge of the sector, its specificities, and to be sensitive to security risks during interventions.

We can exercise responsiveness and to assist in case of failure and unforeseen events in 1300 MWe, 1450 MWe and 900 MWe nuclear power plants. We work exclusively on the mechanical and electronical control of diesel engines, turbogenerators, and emergency turbopumps.

A guaranteed quality service

Our ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications allow us to make a difference in the quality of services with a documentation system kept up to date and operational control guaranteed. This quality assurance allows our technicians to be able to work on ISP (Important Safety Equipment) in the nuclear filed while providing satisfaction to our customer EDF.

Thanks to our nuclear know-how, we have an official contract with EDF UTO to work on the diesel engine control loop in France. As part of this contracts, a 24/24 & 7/7 hotline dedicated to EDF is set up to respond in case of emergency.
