Turbo-pump modernization

Creusot turbo feed pumps (TPA) to supply water to the main turbine boiler, Woodward PG-PL type mechanical speed control with air control.

Regulation in place before intervention

The current TPA control system uses various modules:

  • Woodward PGPL mechanical controller
  • 3-way hydraulic pilot
  • A hydraulic cylinder

Description of operation:

  • The setpoint from the control room (4-20 mA) is converted by an I / P (Intensity / Pressure) converter.
  • This air drives the PG-PL mechanical regulator.
  • The mechanical regulator moves a directional control valve which modulates the cylinder’s hydraulic pressure.
  • The hydraulic power cylinder operates the turbine’s regulating valves via a delevier system.

NCGintervention

Desired regulation :

  • The operation of the TPA control system must be identical to the existing system:
  • Replacement of the PGPL mechanical controller by an all-electric system
  • Retention of the 3-way hydraulic pilot
  • Retention of the hydraulic cylinder
  • Remove the I/P converter
  • Create a new speed sensor support to secure the machine

Description of operation:

  • The setpoint from the control room (4-20 mA) is transmitted directly to an electronic control board.
  • This current command drives the speed setpoint on the control board, which then controls the all-electric actuator.
  • The all-electric actuator moves a directional control valve which modulates the cylinder’s hydraulic pressure. The hydraulic power cylinder uses a lever system to operate the turbine’s regulating valves.
