ProTech‐GII

The ProTech-GII is a safety device designed for overspeed protection, capable of safely shutting down steam, gas, and hydroelectric turbines of all sizes when overspeed or overacceleration is detected.

Product description and features

ProTech-GII Woodward device accurately monitors turbine rotor speed and acceleration via active or passive MPUs (magnetic sensors) and issues a stop command to the turbine’s trip valves or the corresponding trip system.

Depending on the system design, the ProTech-GII Woodward can be purchased with two dual-redundant trip relay outputs using 2-out-of-3 voting architecture, or with three independent non-voted trip relay outputs. Individual alarm relays, 4-20 mA speed displays, and Modbus® communications facilitate its integration into any turbine safety system.

* — Modbus is a trademark of Schneider Automation Inc.

The ProTech-GII is available in flush-mount models for installation inside the front door of a standard 24″ (610 mm) cabinet or in wall-mounted models near the turbine skid. Designed for harsh environments when installed in an enclosure, the device has an IP56 rating (dust-protected and fully protected against strong water jets).

Built for high reliability, each ProTech-GII module (A, B, C) accepts two high-voltage power inputs (90-240 Vac / 100-150 Vdc) or one high-voltage power input (90-240 Vac / 100-150 Vdc) and one low-voltage input (18-32 Vdc). This design operates on high signal selection, allowing the device to function fully with either or both power sources.
