VERTEX Pro

The Vertex-Pro is a controller designed to control and protect motor-driven axial motors and compressors. This controller is available in standard or customized versions.

Product description and features

The Vertex-Pro is an anti-surge controller designed to control and protect industrial-sized motorized axial and centrifugal compressors. This specially designed controller is available in standard and custom models. Standard models are available for one or two recirculation loop applications, while custom models (Vertex-Pro-C models) are available for three or four larger recirculation loop applications.

OEM-qualified algorithms are used to ensure that start-up sequences are followed, compressor load calculations are performed correctly and accurately, and protection and recovery actions are carried out correct.

Features

  • Engine drive interface logic
  • Intake throttle control
  • Inlet guide vane control
  • Recirculation valve(s) Recirculation valve(s) control
  • Overvoltage control
  • Performance control (suction or discharge)
  • Overvoltage anticipation logic
  • Surge protection logic
  • Surge recovery logic
  • Load sharing

Design

The Vertex-Pro is built on Woodward’s proven MicroNet™ platform, and is available in simplex or dual-redundant versions. All models use MicroNet’s compact 8-slot chassis and rugged field termination modules. Simplex models include one of each module, while dual-redundant models include two of each module, enabling users to make smooth online program changes and module replacements.

The Vertex-Pro chassis is designed for bulkhead mounting in a cabinet or control panel, and contains the basic I/O and control software required to control motorized industrial compressors. As a rule, this controller is located in an enclosure adapted to the specific site environment. On-site termination modules (with integrated circuit fuse protection) are included with this controller to enable users to easily lay and manage compressor and system interface wiring. The control also supplies power to the sensors and associated I/O circuits.

This control is field-configurable, enabling users to easily configure the control to suit application-specific requirements. Menu-driven software (Control Assistant) is supplied with the control and, when installed on a Windows PC or laptop, serves as a human interface with the control and/or compressor. This Control Assistant is used to configure, maintain and, optionally, operate the control.

Options

An optional OpView™ touchscreen is available for use as a local or remote control panel. This OpView panel consists of a 17-inch (432 mm) touchscreen and connects to the control via an Ethernet link.
